Perhaps i should first explain the title. It comes from Daniel Pipes and his review of Jonah Goldbergs "liberal Fascism".
The full quote:
Goldberg's extraordinary book provides conservatives with the tools to reply to their liberal tormentors and eventually go on the offensive. If liberals can eternally raise the specter of Joseph McCarthy, conservatives can counter with that of Benito Mussolini.
Yes, that is the right way to go. To compare a fascist leader of Italy to Joseph McCarhy, that makes sense..how?After the flip you will understand. Or you will learn to understand!
As many of you know Goldberg has a new book and a need to market this brilliant piece of literature.
Daniel Pipes has written a "review" of the book and it can be read here.
Apparently we have all been living in some strange vortex of false information, i mean lot of you guys are just fascists! Or maybe Goldberg and the right wing nuts are just liars?
Anyway, here is what Pipes likes:
Likewise, Hitler headed the National Socialist German Workers Party.
Yes, he was commie. It is strange how these guys never read history. If Hitler was a socialist and wanted to create a socialist paradise, why was he in bed with the industrialist? And Hitler got lot of support from the non-workers:
The SA were deployed to break up communist meetings: which won the approval of a very nervous middle class. he made promises to farmers about the quality of life, guarantee of earning and with regards their social status.
But why care about the facts?
But of course, lets muddy the waters:
fascism is flexible; different iterations differ in specifics but they share "emotional or instinctual impulses." Mussolini tweaked the socialist agenda to emphasize the state; Lenin made workers the vanguard party; Hitler added race. If the German version was militaristic, the American one (which Goldberg calls liberal fascism) is nearly pacifist
Emotional or instinctual impulses? What does that even mean? It is hard to argue with him when he doesn't even make sense.
But then comes something that really makes me a nazi/socialist/liberal :
Goldberg dissects American liberal programs – racial, economic, environmental, even the "cult of the organic" – and shows their affinities to those of Mussolini and Hitler.
Worried about global warming? You are a nazi!
Don't like lynching? You are a nazi!
Like quality veggies? You are a frickin' nazi!
And one more quote, just for fun:
Beyond offering a radically different way to understand modern politics, in which fascist is no more a slander than socialist
Translation="Beyond offering a radical and a strange way to understand modern politics".
Dear Wingers, when the book cover looks like this:
And a neo-nazi girl duo looks like this:
..you should realize that Goldberg's "Emotional or instinctual impulses" are telling us bit too much.
